Why “starting at” is doing real work in that sentence
Detailing is not a product with a fixed price. It is labour, and the number of hours depends on what is actually in the vehicle. Three things move a quote more than anything else.
1. Size
A three-row SUV has roughly twice the interior surface of a sedan. More seats, more carpet, more glass, more time.
2. Condition
This is the big one. A car that has been maintained and needs a refresh is a different job from a car that has carried two dogs and a toddler for four winters. Pet hair in particular is slow, manual work that no machine does well.
3. What you actually want
An express interior gets the vehicle clean. A full correction and coating package is restoration. Both are legitimate; they are not the same service and should not cost the same.
Why we do not quote a firm price over the phone
We can give you a range over the phone, and we will. But a firm number before anyone has seen the vehicle is a guess, and guesses go one of two ways: either the shop pads the quote to protect itself, or it quotes low and then finds more work once your car is on the lift.
Neither is a good experience. Fifteen minutes with the vehicle in front of us produces a real number.
What about ceramic coating and paint correction?
Both are quoted after inspection, because both are driven by the state of the clear coat. A vehicle needing a two-step correction before coating is a materially bigger job than one needing a single pass — and you cannot tell which from a photograph.

Is detailing worth the money in Fargo?
Winter here is genuinely hard on vehicles. Salt in the carpets, salt on the paint, six months of road grime. A vehicle that gets detailed once or twice a year holds its condition and its resale value noticeably better than one that does not.
The cheapest option is rarely the one that costs least over the time you own the car.
